The Public Relations (PR) team is available to coordinate press inquiries and serves as a liaison between the media and the hospital. Please connect with a member of the team if you have a story idea, need assistance with story development or have a specific question or request.
Media policy
The Public Relations team has guidelines for contacting Children's Hospital Colorado to arrange media opportunities, including interviews with experts and patients. For general filming or photo opportunities unrelated to Media, the team will connect you with the hospital's Photo/Video team. Please contact media@childrenscolorado.org or call the 24/7 media line to arrange a media opportunity.
By law, and out of respect for patients and families, privacy is of utmost concern at the hospital. Regardless of the nature of the visit, media presence at Children's Colorado must be authorized and coordinated by the PR team. This includes requests for interviews with physicians, nurses, all other hospital personnel and patient families.
Children's Colorado has the following guidelines for to arranging interviews, b-roll or filming/photo opportunities for media:
- All media requests must be approved by the PR team prior to media arriving to Children’s Colorado locations. Advanced notice of on-site interviews is required so the PR team can make arrangements, including confirming a room for interviews, notifying the patient care areas involved, notifying our security team and lining up appropriate patients, families and Children's Colorado team members for the story.
- To protect the privacy of all other Children's Colorado patients and families, the PR team must accompany all reporters and photographers on Children's Colorado properties.
- At the Anschutz Medical Campus location, parking is available in the designated "Media Parking" spaces in the emergency department parking lot next to the blood mobile parking. Media parking is available in the main parking lots of other Children’s Colorado locations.
- Media are permitted on public sidewalks but may not enter Children’s Colorado property, the emergency department or any other area of Children’s Colorado unless accompanied by the PR team.
- All patients must sign a Marketing and Communications HIPAA authorization form before the media will be allowed to capture interviews pictures and/or b-roll.
- Children’s Colorado reserves the right to determine what information, if any, is released to the media, in accordance with HIPAA, hospital policies and applicable laws.
Children's Colorado may release a one-word description of a patient's condition. Below are the definitions of the conditions approved by the American Hospital Association:
- Undetermined: Patient is awaiting physician and assessment.
- Good: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable; indicators are excellent.
- Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious but may be uncomfortable; indicators are favorable.
- Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill; indicators are questionable.
- Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may not be conscious; indicators are unfavorable.
- Treated and released: Patient received treatment but was not admitted.
- Treated and transferred: Patient received treatment. Transferred to a different facility.
