We’re here to support you with the care and information you need before, during and after your visit to the Heart Institute. We’ve compiled helpful information and links related to pediatric heart disease, some of our favorite patient stories and information about our support programs for families of children with heart conditions.

See a list of important questions to ask your child's cardiac care team, from Conquering CHD. Then, see our answers to each question.

Cardiac Kids support group

Cardiac Kids is a networking group for the families of patients at Children’s Hospital Colorado with heart disorders. Members understand the hardship of learning that your child has a serious heart condition and how helpful it can be to talk to someone who has been through the same experiences. Cardiac Kids provides one-on-one connections, information resources and opportunities to meet other parents and children with heart disease.

Palliative care for heart patients and their families

The Heart Institute has dedicated palliative care to support any child with a life-threatening or life-limiting diagnosis. This team also works to create positive experiences and celebrate moments of joy during a difficult time. Learn more about our palliative care team and how they help ease the symptoms, pain and stress of a serious cardiac condition for a child and their family.

Heart organizations and websites

American Heart Association

The American Heart Association website is a great resource for parents and includes a special section on heart health for kids. The local Denver affiliate office has a variety of informative booklets on the heart and heart health and also offers educational programs, classes and various fundraising events throughout the year. Contact the local Denver chapter at 303-369-5433.

Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative

The Heart Institute is a member of the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative, a nonprofit bringing many organizations together to improve neurodevelopmental and psychosocial services for individuals with pediatric and congenital heart disease and their families.

Looking for a second opinion?

Heart conditions vary widely in type and severity — and differ greatly from children to adults. A heart transplant is a big step and it’s important to make sure you’ve looked at every option for your child. And if our experts agree that your child does need a heart transplant, you’ll already be in the right place.
