About the Fertility Preservation and Reproductive Late Effects Program

The Fertility Preservation and Reproductive Late Effects (FPRLE) Program is designed to address gaps in care and to improve the fertility and reproductive health of patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation or surgical procedures that may impact fertility. The program encompasses fertility preservation for newly diagnosed and relapsed patients, as well as reproductive healthcare for patients during the diagnosis stage and in cancer survivorship.

Pediatric fertility preservation, adolescent fertility preservation and fertility preservation for young adults

At Children’s Hospital Colorado, we accept referrals and consults for fertility preservation for females who are pre-pubertal through age 30 and males who are pre-pubertal through age 21. These patients will have received or will undergo chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgical procedures of the reproductive tract for treatment of their condition. We can provide consultation regarding the impact of medical treatment on fertility, available fertility preservation options, contraceptive management, menstrual suppression and applicable diagnostic lab testing.

Fertility preservation options for females

• Egg (oocyte) freezing
• Embryo freezing
• Ovarian tissue cryopreservation
• Ovarian transposition (oophoropexy)
• Ovarian shielding

Fertility preservation options for males

• Sperm freezing
• Embryo freezing
• Testicular aspiration (biopsy)
• Testicular tissue cryopreservation

Reproductive late effects

Reproductive late effects refer to adverse gynecologic and urologic outcomes of treatment. We provide care to lessen the severity of these potential adverse effects. We accept referrals and consults for male and female patients of all ages (as appropriate) for:

• Ovarian or testicular failure
• Genital graft-versus-host disease in males and females
• Direct radiation effects to the breast and pelvic organs
• Sexual dysfunction during cancer treatment and in survivorship
• Pregnancy considerations in survivorship
• HPV-related dysplasia and other health maintenance needs

Cross collaboration for quality transitional care

Our providers and team members see patients at both facilities, making it a seamless transition.

Who we treat at the Fertility Preservation and Reproductive Late Effects Program

We treat female patients from the age of 1 month until age 30. We treat male patients from puberty to age 21. Common conditions include:
