My care philosophy
I approach clinical work as a scientist-practitioner, guided by an evidence-based practice framework that integrates the best available research, clinical expertise, and the unique characteristics and preferences of each patient. Across various settings, I strive to establish strong therapeutic alliances and incorporate shared decision-making throughout the treatment process.
Central to my clinical philosophy is a deep commitment to cultural humility and equity. I believe that effective care must acknowledge and adapt to the lived experiences, identities, and systemic contexts that shape each patient’s life. I continuously seek to understand how culture, oppression, and marginalization intersect with mental health and treatment engagement, and I strive to tailor care that is accessible, respectful, and responsive.

James Kyle Haws, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and ACCORDS at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and Children's Hospital Colorado. The overarching goal of his line of research inquiry is to optimize the delivery of evidence-based interventions in healthcare and community-based settings.
