For Patients:
My research focuses on understanding and preventing neonatal brain injury that leads to movement disorders including cerebral palsy. To do this, my laboratory looks at changes that occur at the cellular level to find ways to rescue and promote healing of the brain. My research currently focuses on two common disorders seen in the NICU that put infants at risk for cerebral palsy: maternal pre-eclampsia resulting in infant intrauterine growth restriction and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The ultimate goal of my work is the early detection and treatment of babies with brain injury to ensure the best neurodevelopmental outcomes.
