About our Overweight and Obesity Clinical Pathways

The Overweight and Obesity Clinical Pathways offer best practice recommendations for the care of children and adolescents with overweight and obesity across primary care, subspecialty care, and inpatient settings. They were developed by a multidisciplinary team and updated to be consistent with the 2023 American Academy of Pediatrics Obesity Clinical Practice Guideline. The pathway offers guidance for safe, effective, and non-stigmatizing care for children with obesity.

Notable updates to the pathways include:

  • Guidance on the effectiveness, contraindications, dosing, adverse effects, and monitoring of anti-obesity medications
  • Updated guidance on laboratory surveillance for conditions comorbid with obesity
  • Guidance on fluid management adjustments for body size
