Pediatric and Child Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowships

At Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, we are dedicated to improving the mental health of children and families while training the next generation of pediatric and child clinical psychologists. Our Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program offers training in a wide variety of psychology specialties.

The fellowship program includes time devoted to clinical training (60% to 80% of time) as well as time for educational, scholarly, research and program development activities (20% to 40% of time). Please see the 2027 to 2028 fellowship brochure for more information.

Postdoctoral fellowship positions

We offer fellowships in the following areas:

• Anxiety and OCD
• Acute clinical care practice and research
• Behavioral sleep medicine
• Cancer and blood disorders
• Cardiology
• Cystic fibrosis
• Developmental pediatric psychology
• Dual diagnosis behavioral psychology
• Mood specialty psychology
• Pediatric primary care
• Pediatric solid organ transplant
• Surgical psychology

All fellows receive a minimum of two hours of supervision by licensed clinical psychologist supervisors who are active clinicians in our hospital. Our supervisors evaluate fellows formally every six months through written evaluations, and informally through weekly supervision. Fellows attend weekly, in-person didactics and institute grand rounds.

All fellowships are designed as full-time, 12-month positions beginning in late August. There are no options to begin fellowships after the start date. Fellows will receive an annual salary of $63,480 (updated yearly in alignment with National Institutes of Health standards), subject to the withholding of taxes. Psychology fellows are University of Colorado employees and are eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance options.

Requirements for admission

Applicants must have completed their training in an American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) accredited PhD or PsyD program in counseling, clinical or school psychology, as well as an APA accredited internship. Candidates are expected to have sufficient training and experience in child clinical psychology to maximize the benefits of the experiences we offer. Please note that currently, we’re not able to sponsor students on an H1B visa.

We accept applications from doctoral candidates who will have completed all doctoral degree requirements by their fellowship start date. Doctoral degree requirements include successful completion of an internship, dissertation defense and graduate coursework. Positions are contingent on official verification of all doctoral degree requirements before the start of the fellowship training year. This could include a diploma, transcript or a letter from a graduate advisor/graduate director of training saying you’ve met all requirements.

To meet the needs of the children and families we serve, our fellowship program is committed to recruiting and retaining individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to addressing health inequities and caring for medically underserved populations. Given the many languages spoken within the communities we serve, our program also encourages those who speak multiple languages to apply. Our program provides group supervision in Spanish to support bilingual trainees in working with our large Spanish-speaking community.

Our fellowship training program is part of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and follows all APPIC policies and guidelines regarding application and notification procedures. We adhere to the common hold date.

The application deadline for the 2027 to 2028 fellowship training year is Dec. 1, 2026 at 11:59 pm EST.

A completed application consists of the following materials:

1. Include a cover letter stating interest in the specific postdoctoral track(s) (detailed above) of choice, previous clinical, research and professional experience relevant to the postdoctoral program, and professional goals that may result from the specific postdoctoral track(s) identified.
   • If you are applying for more than one postdoctoral fellowship track with Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, please complete a separate APPIC application for each track.
   • You may apply to up to four of our tracks.
   • Please use the same cover letter across all track applications.
   • You may rank your preferences if you have them.

3. Official transcripts of all doctoral level coursework (no need to send transcripts of nondoctoral level coursework)
4. Three letters of recommendation (please submit only three letters)
5. All developmental pediatric psychology applications must include a de-identifiedwork sample.
