Children’s Colorado, Mayo Clinic Announce Rare Congenital Heart Defect Collaboration

Mayo Clinic’s Todd and Karen Wanek Family Program for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and Children’s Colorado are collaborating to provide solutions for patients with this rare and complex form of congenital heart disease in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped.

Study Finds Making Flu Vaccines Mandatory for Healthcare Workers Reduces Absenteeism and Increases Rates of Vaccination

A multi-institutional study shows that mandatory flu vaccines for healthcare workers improve vaccination rates by as much as 30% and reduce absenteeism during critical periods by about 6%. Further, vaccinated healthcare workers had a 30% reduction in absenteeism compared to non-vaccinated healthcare workers overall. Children’s Colorado was one of the hospitals that mandated the flu vaccine during the trial.

We've Partnered to Help Open a Birthing Center in Rural Guatemala

The new center pairs traditional birth attendants with nurses trained as skilled birth attendants so deliveries can be shifted from the home to the birth center. The shift is expected to improve maternal and fetal health in an area which currently experiences extremely high rates of maternal morbidity and neonatal mortality.

We're Opening a New Hospital in Colorado Springs!

On Nov. 16, we broke ground on southern Colorado's first pediatric-only hospital. Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs is scheduled to open in late spring 2019.

Pediatrics in Disasters Program to Focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East

The Pediatrics in Disasters (PEDs) training program, which trains healthcare and humanitarian workers to prioritize life-saving care for children in disasters, has been revised to focus more directly on sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East – where there has been an increase in conflict, refugees and displaced populations.
