At Children’s Hospital Colorado, our experts provide typical childhood experiences to our patients with long-lasting medical health issues. The education and socialization students receive as part of the Medical Day Treatment Program creates stability and routine for both children and their families. While their children are in our school, parents and caregivers can take care of the rest of their family, focus on work or spend time recharging.

Care that’s close to school

During any given day, students in medical day treatment may have multiple healthcare appointments. Because the program is located within the hospital, children can attend medical appointments with their parents and return to the Medical Day Treatment Program with less disruption to their school day.

Mental health

Students in the Medical Day Treatment Program face unique challenges that many of their peers do not. Whether coping with a complex medical diagnosis or missing their old school and friends, students benefit from mental health sessions during the school day. While classmates may share similar experiences, individualized mental health support helps each student navigate their unique journey.

Family involvement

Students receive support from a wide range of specialists during the school day. Families join monthly treatment meetings with the entire medical day treatment care team to ensure progress toward personalized learning and healthcare goals.

Your care team

Your child will receive care tailored to their unique needs from credentialed teachers, medical specialists and mental health care professionals. Once accepted, our care team creates your child’s treatment plan based on their specific medical, educational and emotional needs. Our team communicates regularly with families between monthly meetings to address any changes in your child’s medical or academic needs.
